New Zealand Earthuake 2011
New Zealand’s Kermadec Islands have been hit by an earthquake on Wednesday July 07 2011. This Earthquake is 7.6 on the Richter scale. The Earthquake was the strongest measuring 161 km east of Raoul Island- which is one of Kermadec Islands in New Zealand.
A localised tsunami warning has been issued by the U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center for the region of Kermadec Islands, New Zealand and Tonga. Another tsunami warning was issued for New Zealand’s Northland, Bay of Plenty and East Coast. The Kermadic Islands is a region of New Zealand that does not have a permanent population, making the damage from the earthquake less significant. The Islands are often struck by earthquakes. This is not the first Earthuake occuring in New Zealand in 2011.
